Travelling | Guatemala - final thoughts

As much as I want to, I find it quite hard to describe our trip to Guatemala. We were there for almost 3 weeks, but we experienced enough for a couple of months. It was an experience unlike any other.

Since Nigeria is the place I know best, apart from Denmark, I always compare other places to Nigeria. When we went to the states I recognized a few traits from Nigeria, and some traits from Denmark. I was really excited to go to Guatemala, since I've had no experiences from that area.

There were similarities to Nigeria, but there were several things that were completely new to me. It was such a joy to experience yet another culture.

It's funny how such a relatively short trip can affect you. I don't speak spanish very well, but now, everytime I hear spanish on tv, I feel sort of at home. I remember the trip, remember the noises, the people, the food, the images. Spanish now makes me feel at home. Funny thing.

Travelling is really important to me, and it's one of the things I cherish most in this world. I'll never tire of it, and I'll always have a hunger to go new places, meet new people, see new cultures.

It's a blessing and a curse.

Travelling | Guatemala - Caves, Flores + Christmas

So, not too many pictures left from Guatemala now.
We went to see some really impressive caves - not just regular caves, but HUGE caves!

Then we went on to the charming little island Flores.

I would live here if I could!

And, of course we celebrated christmas while we were there. I love nontraditional christmas tress!

This makes our tiny nativity set fade away! I'm loving this - maybe I'll attempt one like this for Christmas this year.

Travelling | Guatemala - Volcano + coffee

One of the first days in Guatemala city, we went to climb an active volcano, because apparently, that's what you do.

At the top!

On one of the last days in Coban we went to see a coffee plantation.

They had cardamum as well.

That was some goood coffee!

Travelling | Guatemala- Antigua + Maya ruins

We visited a lot of different places while in Guatemala, and two of them were Antigua - the old capital, and some quite impressive Maya ruins.

First, Antigua:

We rode the bus to Antigua - not this exact one, but a similar one. A very pleasant, but cramped, ride.

The Maya ruins were part of a whole Maya community, and only a fraction were uncovered. It was such a big place, and there were so many temples and buildings. Imagining what it had been like was overwhelming.

Not only were there huge buildings, but huge palmtrees as well!

Travelling | Guatemala

Those who know me, know that I never drink tea, BUT now I do! I've made up my mind, and now, I drink tea. I don't always enjoy it, but I drink it, and I'm sure I'll enjoy it soon enough.

As some of you know, me and my family went to Guatemala for Christmas, to attend my uncle's wedding. It was such a great time, and I've finally started getting the pictures in order. Now, there are tons of pictures, and even though I'll only upload a fraction of here, it's still too much for a single post, so I'll spread it out a bit over the next few days. So follow along!

Of course we went with the purpose to attend the wedding, and it was so beautiful! I cried. That's how beautiful it was. (Okay, I cry at all weddings, but it really was beautiful!)

Isn't that one of the most beautiful couples you've ever seen!? I love them so much, and I wish they lived closer so I could see them more often. Maybe one day we won't be so far apart.

Of course we had time to do much more than attend the wedding, so check back later for more pics from the gorgeous Guatemala!
